Modification Code #A.423 Distributor Thermostatic Vacuum Valve Hook Up- 1973 Triumph Spitfire MK VI Vehicle Identification # Range FM-263U to FM-2538U

January, 1973
At the commencement of production for the 1973 Model year MK IV Spitfires, full E.P.A. approval had not been received for inclusion of a thermostatic vacuum valve (Thermovac), into the carburetor/ distributor retard pipe circuit. Vehicles within the above V.I.N. range were, therefore, built with the vacuum retard pipe connected direct from the distributor to the carburetor, but with the thermovac valve still included as part of the lower radiator hose assembly.

Full E.P.A. approval has now been received for the thermovac system, therefore, on the above vehicles, the valve must be connected into the vacuum retard circuit as detailed on the attached service instructions.

NOTE: The function of the thermovac valve system is to cut out distributor vacuum retard at high engine temperatures, thereby preventing engine overheating.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

Modify all vehicles within the affected V.I.N. range in Distributor and dealer stock, together with all vehicles previously retailed as they are returned for routine service.

OWNER NOTIFICATION

As this is not a safety related defect, owners of vehicles already retailed, will NOT be notified by British Leyland Motors Inc.

PARTS

The following parts will be sent, free of charge, to each dealer in sufficient quantities to modify approximately 60% of all affected vehicles; order additional quantities if required.
